HTC Corporation is a Taiwanese manufacturer of smartphones, tablets and, more recently, virtual reality headsets. Although their roots lie in notebook business, they weren’t very well known or successful back then, despite designing one of world’s premier touch-enabled handhelds back in 1998. Company was able to produce first smartphone running on Android OS, and this cemented their partnership with Microsoft. Going on global market in 2010 with heavy advertising campaign, HTC managed to sell nearly 25 million handsets. They lost a fair bit of that market share by 2012, when Samsung and Apple presented their latest devices, and by 2014 they firmly relocated into a niche for demanding customers. Model HTC One M8 sold very well in United Kingdom and United States, which boosted overall sales by 13 percent. In 2015 HTC released one of premier virtual reality devices in collaboration with Valve Corporation. It received rave reviews, with many critics naming it much better device than nearest competitor Oculus Rift.
