After the U.S. presidential election ended, Run the Jewels released a new song entitled “2100” in which they rap about a violent future. They stated that they have written the song a few months back and that they weren’t planning on releasing it, but with Donald Trump being elected as the president of U.S. it felt like the right time.
Everyone that listened to this song thought that it was directed towards Donald Trump, but one band member from Run the Jewels, EL-P has explained to everyone in a twitter posts what the song is really about : “we didnt write this song about the election. we wrote it about something bigger and we wrote it several months ago. seems to fit though” said EL-P.
They were planning to release the song in their upcoming third album but the time “feels right, now” as stated by EL-P. He also said that he hopes the song comforts its listeners.
