Jay Sean
Biography

Jay Sean is a singer from London, who was born as Kamaljit Singh Jhooti on March 26, 1979. He was raised in a family of Punjabi Sikhs and dropped out of London University to become musician. It all began when Rishi Rich invited him to be part of his band, Rishi Rich Project. After few successful singles in this format, Virgin Records signed contract with Jay worth one million pounds. Album “Me Against Myself” came out in 2004 and was praised by critics. Title track of this album was singled out for being especially innovative, with its clash of hip-hop and R&B. While album was only moderately popular in Great Britain, it became a smash hit in India, with sales exceeding 2 million. His next album was made in 2008, after parting with Virgin and writing a few songs for other artists. Its name was “My Own Way”, and its reception was way worse, both with critics and customers. However, for some reason song “Ride It” was very popular in Russia. In just a year, launch party at London’s Royal Exchange welcomed Sean’s next album, “All or Nothing”. It was followed by national tour. And finally, in 2013, fourth album “Neon” was produced in collaboration with Cash Money Records. Sadly, it flopped completely, scoring awful review grades and selling just 3,608 copies during first week in United States.
