Biography

Arctic Monkeys are a famous English indie rock band from High Green. Alex Turner and Jamie Cook received guitars for Christmas in 2001. They formed a band with their school friends: Andy Nicholson, Matt Helders, and Glyn Jones. Glyn soon left the group. Their hits “I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor” and “When The Sun Goes Down” brought them instant success. Their first album “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I Am Not” has counted almost 120,000 copies sold during the first week. One year later, in 2007, it got the Best Album NME Awards. They also got the Mercury Prize for their debut album. Their second album “Favorite Worst Nightmare” climbed to No.1 UK and No.7 U.S. charts. Moreover, the band started to get various awards all over the world. The success was followed by their headline on Glastonbury Festival. The last show in 2007 was performed at Manchester Apollo. Arctic Monkeys won 7 British Awards, including Best British Group and Best British Album. Besides, they were the nominee for 3 Grammy Awards, including “Do I Wanna Know” for Best Rock Performance.
