Owl City
Biography

Owl City is a project by Adam Young. It features rather unique blend of electronica and synth-pop, with elements of indietronica. It is active since 2007. Having nothing to do when under spell of insomnia, caused by excessive work with loading and unloading of Coca-Cola trucks, Adam started dabbling into creation of music. Myspace was his first choice for uploading amateur tracks, and his fans were multiplying quickly there. Online music store CD Baby was first to help Adam monetize his work, he also did some independent iTunes releases like extended play “Of June” and album “Maybe I'm Dreaming”. Universal Republic noted how well these works sell despite lack of centralized promotion and marketing, so deal between them was made. Album “Ocean Eyes” hit the shelves and digital platforms in summer of 2009, and once again sold well, claiming top spot at Billboard’s Alternative Albums chart. Critics didn’t like it and the next album “All Things Bright and Beautiful”, and the one after it, “The Midsummer Station”, too. Some fans of his work even share and promote conspiracy theory that these reviews are part of broader anti-Christian plot, and Adam is a vocal Christian. Despite this, Owl City continues to produce interesting content for fans of this genre. Its music videos on YouTube consistently gather huge numbers of views, with clips like “Fireflies” and “Vanilla Twilight” leading with 200 million and 57 million views respectively.
