One Direction
Biography

One Direction is a boy band from London. Currently, their members are Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Liam Payne. All members of this collective tried to impress judges of The X Factor competition as solo singers, but failed. Instead, they were grouped into band and entered category fit for groups. There they were more successful and eventually won third place in this contest. Columbia Records picked them up and after debuting at professional music market with single “What Makes You Beautiful”, which broke labels records for amount of pre-orders, they presented full album “Up All Night”. Sales of almost five million copies around the world proved that producers were right when they decided to keep romantic and light hearted image of band, and avoid adult contemporary influences. Quality of production remained decent forever after, as while second album “Take Me Home” was criticized for playing it too safe, borderline generic, its lyrics and tunes were undeniably professional. 2013 was truly their year, as their third album “Midnight Memories” became best seller in that year, with its total sales of 4 million they left behind such stars as Eminem, Justin Timberlake and Katy Perry. One Direction continues to amaze its fans and they truly deserve their status of teenage cultural idols of 2010’s.
