Norah Jones
Biography

Norah Jones is a stage name of Geetali Norah Shankar, American singer and actress with Indian ancestry from Brooklyn. She was born on March 30 in 1979. Blue-eyed soul and jazz are her main genres. Norah learned jazz piano at University of North Texas in Denton. She met her future colleague Jesse Harris there and went after him to New York to start a band. They managed to get a contract with Blue Note Records and produce first album “Come Away with Me” fairly quickly. It proved to be one of best debuts not just in jazz genre but in American music overall, as it skyrocketed to the very top of Billboard’s 200 and won eight Grammy Awards. It needed less than three years to receive diamond certification and ten years to sell almost thirty million copies. It was hard to repeat success of this magnitude with second album and both Norah and her producers were satisfied with “mere” four times platinum status of second album “Feels Like Home”. She won some more Grammy’s for this and her guest appearance on “Genius Loves Company” by Ray Charles. As of April 2017, she released six successful albums. Perhaps out of boredom or to prove that she can do everything, she started to act in various movies. Among others, receiving leading role in movie “My Blueberry Night” by legendary director Wong Kar Wai.
